Martinson Model Surfboard
After a lifetime of chasing perfect surf all over the world, Mark Martinson now makes his home on Oahus North Shore. Born in 1947 and raised in Long Beach, Martinson started surfing at age 10. Six years later he was runner-up in the 1962 West Coast Championships. Marks signature moment came in 1965 when he won the U.S. Championships. In the mid to late 60s Mark crisscrossed the globe with the MacGillivray/Freeman team filming Free and Easy and Waves of Change. Although 1965 was Martinsons competition peak, hes also recognized as an innovative surfboard designer, being among the first California surfers to research and develop the new, shorter boards of the late 1960s.
